Project Description.

One of the most significant public housing improvement projects in Puerto Rico, the comprehensive modernization of the 400 dwelling M.A. Perez development is one element in the Commonwealth’s plans to create “La Nueva Puerta de San Juan” - the new gateway into the City of San Juan.

The scope of improvements includes:

• demolition of 48 units and replacement with new duplex apartments;
• reconfiguration of existing units to conform with current codes and design standards;
• redistribution of unit sizes to better accommodate current resident populations;
• correction of design deficiencies in original construction;
• implementation of several urban design improvements to increase safety and strengthen the sense of a resident community

The project is funded through the federal HUD HOPE VI program.
